Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

1 Corinthians 13 --the Love Chapter-- gets trotted out at weddings or around Valentine's Day to remind us of the true quality of divine love. If we want to make the most of a relationship, here are guidelines laid out by Paul to the church at Corinth.

Now, don't get me wrong, this is good advice here for couples in love, but Paul had something more in mind. Romantic or spousal relationships have challenges, but we are in such relationships by choice. We want them to work. But what about those relationships that aren't our choice; the aggravating neighbours who have loud parties every weekend; the panhandler passed by on the way to work; a teenage daughter's questionable boyfriend; the couple in the congregation that love to gossip? How are you loving them; without envy and anger; with patience and kindness? This Valentine's Day, let's resolve to love all, with God's great love.

Faith, hope and love remain. The greatest is love.
